For generations, boys and girls have enjoyed Candyland as their first board game.
The color-themed game requires no reading on the part of the players and is easy
for even the youngest of children to follow. Players move their primary-colored
gingerbread people around the rainbow path, moving through the Peppermint Stick
Forest by matching the color spaces to the colors on the pick deck. The player who
reaches the Candy Castle first wins.
Playing cards thoughtfully designed for non-readers are coded with colorful squares
matching the jeweled stepping-stone path or an occasional token matching one of the
characters' symbols: draw a blue card, move to the nearest blue stepping-stone;
draw a snowflake and earn a visit to Queen Frostine's iceberg. There are occasional
pitfalls, too: land on the wrong square and you might be stuck in Molasses Swamp
until a red card is drawn. With all these enticing, sugarcoated images (and King
Kandy plainly visible at path's end), children can't help but be delighted by
Candyland. It's delicious!
This game is suitable to two to four players, children and adult and children can
even play it alone. As a primary learning game, Candy Land fosters a child's exposure
to following directions, taking turns, color recognition and count skills. The game
promotes thinking as well as patience in the form of waiting one's turn to play.
By playing games with others, children are encouraged to socially interact in
a more controlled manner, which helps develop character for future endeavors.

Candyland 50th Anniversary Edition
BUY NOW
This perennial favorite prereading game has gotten a makeover for its 50th anniversary.
The basics are the same: players still move ahead according to the color of the card they
draw; they still try to avoid getting stuck in the Molasses Swamp; and they still thrill
when they draw the magical Queen Frostine card. It's the game's graphics that have been
updated. A three-dimensional version of the Candy Castle beckons at the end of the trail;
the playing pieces look remarkably like gingerbread-folk come to life; and even the color
blocks on the cards have a tastefully decorative frame around them. The whole thing is
packed in a collector's tin for safekeeping. Ages 3 and up. For 2 to 4 players.
Candyland Pooh - 100 Acre Wood Picnic Edition

Two old favorites often make a winning combination when they are brought together, as is
proven here in this Pooh edition of Candy Land. Winnie the Pooh and his friends, Eeyore,
Piglet, and Tigger, move along the winding path of the game board, picking up treats for
a picnic in the 100 Acre Wood. No reading is required to play. Children draw cards and
then use their color-recognition and symbol-matching skills to advance to the appropriate
location on the board. Many adults will recognize this classic game from their own childhood
and will enjoy sharing it with the kids now in their lives. A.A. Milne's familiar and
enduring Pooh characters will ease children into the often-difficult concept of taking turns!
